‘Back in my day, we had to walk TWO ZONES to get to the dungeons, uphill both ways, IN THE SNOW! AND WE DIDN’T HAVE THOSE FANCY FLYING MOUNTS YOU KIDS HAVE NOWADAYS EITHER! SPOILED, I TELL YA! SUFFERING BUILDS CHARACTER! NOW WHERE ARE MY MULTIVITAMINS!?’
Yup, dealing with this now. Things are rough when literally every source has different priorities and stat weights and no viewable evidence as to why theirs is better, other than having some rando who is in a good guild “verify” it being the best when an equal and opposite rando disagrees…
I know the feel. There’s always someone telling you your build is bad, and that they’re an expert, or that they’re brother-cousins with an expert, or that there’s some Slav who’s an expert and that you should learn2meta scrub
Tbh, if the best of the best players disagree on what is best, its probably because the talent tier is well balanced so it doesn’t really matter. Or it just varies based on the fight.
i mean stat priorities and weights are always going to change from source to source because its not a static thing, and stat weights should ALWAYS be done for your own character (with something like SimulationCraft). The reason different people would give different stat weights is because stat weights are dynamic and change based on your current gear set, and will in fact keep changing as you get more gear
Use MY cookie cutter build! Seriously, though, this is why Blizz did away with the traditional trees, no matter how many people swore up and down that everyone wasn’t using the exact same build given a few points here and there.
Talents? Who needs them? Play without, makes everything much easier and makes you seem a lot more hardcore.
“How good I am at this game? I Tanked the Dragon King without talents!”
I remember when I got upset with a change and just farmed a bit without talents. It actually worked fine. Not sure I’d gimp myself that little bit in raiding, but…
Gods, this, this, THIS. I’ve actually had guildies toss fits at me because I wouldn’t listen to their advice-that-conflicted-with-everyone-else’s (and I’m talking full-fleged temper tantrums that a two-year-old would be ashamed of). Best way for Keran to go is what I did: only listen-to/copy fellow paladins whom I respected, whom I’d run with and knew were really good…but adapt things to my own play style.
Back when, there was only one or two ways to go for builds, and most sites agreed on them — but now, with Blizz’s overhaul, everyone’s got different reasons and “YOU GOTTA DO THIS OR DIIIIIIIIIEEE”. It’s even worse on the “secondary stats” — y’know, those things Blizz tossed because no one understood them, then replaced them with other stats that no one really understands, that aren’t explained in-game, and need you to go to obtuse, confusing, third-party number-cruncher sites to try to figure out. Seriously, even FFXIV gives an in-game explain of the stats via mouseover, but Blizz can’t be bothered to do even that simple thing.
??? Blizz tells you what your stats do on mouseover. People go to third party websites to optimize because its hard to figure out how all of your abilities interact with each other and with different stats to turn out the strongest without doing a crapload of math.
No one is sitting there wondering what mastery or crit does?
I was really happy with my class, spec, template and playstyle – until I started reading the guides and forums. Apparently, I’m doing everything wrong, and can’t be having much fun after all.
I kinda felt this way with Elemental Shaman going into Legion. We lost some options but gained other ones, but all the boring crap is whats “best” for PvE so if I want to be the best I can be I lost stuff going into Legion because the new stuff I think is cool is bad.
(I swapped mains though, so I don’t have to deal with that anyway)
I’ve never understood the whole “I can’t play X spec so I’m not having fun.” I hardly pay much attention to specs to begin with other than to pick whatever the current meta is.
I’m content if my spec uses less than like five button. I miss the old Pandaria warrior builds where it was like “blow all cooldowns, murder someone, play defensively a few mins, repeat.”Or Cata/Wrath style holy pally where shit was just holy shock/clense/flash of light spam with a few CDs thrown in. Easy and effective.
I’ve never understood why folks would -want- more complexity. It’s like asking for more work to do without extra pay.
A friend of mine that used to play was a tankadin that wound up in a PuG tanking a BC heroic with a guy from Elitist Jerks. Now, my friend had a way of tanking that was nothing like established tanking rotations at the time. Once the EJ guy noticed he wasn’t risking pulling threat like he usually did in those days(for those not familiar with WoW of that era, DPS could rarely do their max potential without a max raid geared tank and even then could be iffy), he talked to my friend and wanted to see if he could pull threat off him on the next boss. My buddy agreed and the EJ guy pulled out all the stops…and did not pull threat!
Turns out my friend had discovered a much better way for tankadins to handle the tank role than many of the experts of the time. The EJ guy asked a lot of questions about his stat priorities, talents and rotation…and a couple months later his style was presented on the Elitist Jerks forums for others to copy and learn from, with credit given to the random run with my friend. Sadly, Somrael(my tankadin’s toon) has not been active since Wrath, but it was cool to see someone I knew wind up changing the game like that 🙂
My toxic trait is I refuse to look up any guides on anything because I treat that as a kind of spoiler. I wanna figure out the game for myself, no matter how painful it is for everyone else to watch me flail!
Don’t sweat it, it’s just their way of Keran.
She’s not the sort to go off at them, or give them the Cold-Blood shoulder, so it shouldn’t Build up to any Discord.
I’d say she needs to leave and go seek a quite place. Maybe somewhere with animals. It can be her Zhusen.
It would be interesting to hear Tank advice from Vedrana because I think her old class was a tank. And all of that knowledge is 20 patches old.

Nope! She was a warrior http://www.xpboostcomic.com/comic/leave-for-two-minutes/

Listen to your heart and the talents will become clear.
That’s a one way ticket to melee sorcery
