Whatever you do don’t make the eggs hatch.
All right lets do this, LEEROY JENKINGS!
God damn, it Keran hatched the eggs.

I think I’m on Verdrana’s side on this. Keran’s thoughtlessness and self-centred flightiness irk me. Sadly, even telling her EXACTLY how much gold she just wasted for an “adorable” she will almost certainly forget in a few days, would not bring it home to her, because she doesn’t understand the value of it (having no experience with the expenses associated with max level gearing)

I don’t think that’s actually it. I think Keran probably used the egg while Verdrana was talking. One of the hazards of questing with a newbie. “Hey, what’s this do?”

      BIND ON USE

No, I don’t know this from experience or anything…

The value of having something is determined by the person, not it’s rarity or use to someone else.

If Keran likes pets, then it’s just as valuable to her as someone who spent a boat-load of gold on it; it doesn’t matter if you know the sticker price.

There’s a difference between “Hey that’s cute” for something you pick up and “The driving force of my online life is to collect EVERY PET IN THE GAME, and that’s the LAST ONE! Having it will make my (virtual) life complete! Here, take this half-a-million gold, please!”

Money means nothing to the person who doesn’t need it. She doesn’t CARE about the gold. She’s having fun without it and gotten a cute thing to hang out and share her adventures.

Its not her fault the other one has a completely unobtainable end goal and is going to turn into a raving douchbag about it. you know.. since she’s trying to get into a “world’s first” fight with out a huge guild feeding a team of people already geared and good at working with each other…

And I’m with Keran. I mean, she doesn’t know yet, but Verd is basically using her to get revenge on that asshole.

      That’s not good friend behaviour.

I’m with you on that, too. I’m with Keran on this, and I would’ve hatched that egg faster than she did. While I’ve been waiting for the big Orhan-come-uppance, I’m NOT looking forward to the Keran-Verdrana breakdown that’s going to come with it, because the way Verd’s going is guaranteed to break up the friendship.

Ruining a newcomer’s shiny first-time experience is guaranteed to turn them against the very game you wanted them to fall in love with.

I’d have hatched it as well. My basic way of thinking is “Do I have this pet?” If not, then it’s mine and I don’t care how much I could potentially make by selling it.

I never understood the constantly broke max level end-game thing. I could never find enough to spend gold on… unless I wanted to try to buy gear, which is just a slightly longer term investment for the short while before it is replaced. None of the other things cost enough to fret over.
That said, I feel similarly about pets and mounts in MMOs as they stand. Not worth worrying about.
Personally… I think it is just the right thing to happen to bring out Vedrana’s real objectives, make Keran talk about her own opinions, and get them working toward an understanding. Otherwise V would make K go crazy and burn out, or so I would guess.

The highest level of mount training always drove me to broke.

Oh, and repairs to fix my failures.

True, I never really hurt for money, and I didn’t go hugely out of my way to grind. Bet you Keran doesn’t value that pet, however adorable it may be, as much as a person who spent a chunk of gold on it, tho. Certainly won’t appreciate its rarity. Though, I suppose that that innocence is nice in its own way, valuing things only for what they are, rather than the effort required to obtain them.

I dunno. I tend to feel the pets I’ve gotten from drops (and farmgrinds–I’m looking at you, whelplings) are more valued to me, personally, than the ones I saved up gold to get. And I valued those whelplings not because of their rarity, but because I like dragons and I wanted a pet emerald whelpling to follow my druid around. I dunno, when I buy a pet, no matter how long I worked on saving gold to do so, getting it from the mailbox is just kind of a feeling of “yay, got it,” while seeing it drop in that lootbox is “holy crap holy crap YOU GUYS YOU GUYS IT DROPPED IT DROPP FINALLY.”

I would also choose to get the pet over selling it. Many people forget that the point of an MMO is to have fun. If you are most happy collecting things, more power to you. I am level 90 in WoW, raid, and always have extra gold for frilly stuff like transmogrification and buying fun stuff.
