Oh well. Self-awareness is a virtue.

I bet Zhusen is PMing Daranger as we speak, offering condolences.

Something tells me Zhusen will help smooth things over. Daranger needs to learn his way isn’t automatically the best, Vedrana needs to work more on her patience and both of them need to learn to communicate and compromise. Zhusen would be an ideal mediator for that

I think if anyone is up to the task, it’s that healing font of goodness. Considering Vedrana’s disappointment/shame, she’d probably be willing to think about being convinced to talk it out. Maybe.

    I want that title.
“the Fabulous” works for now though.

Well, she’s aware she goofed, so I guess the healing can begin now that the cleric’s back?

I wouldn’t say she goofed. More of the “Am I running this raid or you?” attitude. Also the other one just doesn’t know when to take a hint and shutup.

Have them in that they input on ‘everything’ and don’t know when to quit. So they get ignored more and wonder why?

My response on that remains: What hint? She never even asked Zhusen if they could run without him, and seemed okay with it until she exploded, which is the goof.

Verdrana did not goof. Look how long she put up with Deranger (De Ranger…groan) and his attitude — he was basically undermining her leadership, undermining everything she said, trying to take over leadership as it is was his natural right to do so.

Ye gods. I’m betting that every single woman who’s ever done raid or group leader or tank has put up with That Guy. There’s only so much you can take before you finally get sick of everything you say being put down as “not good enough”. I would’ve blown up long before this, and this is one of the thing’s I love about this comic.

Robin gets it. She really does. She understands what women gamers have to deal with over and over and how we drive ourselves crazy (and sadly, crazy and silent, thinking it’s just us or that it somehow is all our fault, just as Verd does here). Dammit, Verdrana, keep that Furious title! It’s one thing to apply patience and listen to your team who are giving you that respect. It’s totally different to deal with an arrogant Deranger who automatically thinks his ways are best, all the time, and lets you know it in the most condescending way possible.

I think he’s more I-read-about-this-so-it-must-be-right and a bit ignorant rather than you’re-wrong-so-I-should-be-in-charge, and definitely not you’re-wrong-because-you’re-a-woman. Dudes drive themselves crazy about people being shitheads all the time. I play healer in ESO. Every few runs I get off because I’m not dps-ing. I get told off because the DDs have literally half as much health as me and the constitution and tactical awareness of wet tissues, so they run around like sperglords and then die like sperglords. Tanks getting shit for not being able to taunt the twenty-odd adds that just rocked up, even though there’s no skill area taunts. DDs cop shit if they’re single-target against groups, and vice versa.

MMOs are competitive games, not just in PVP. Everyone’s constantly striving to be better, and better than everyone else and to get that, kill that, save that, make that, finish that, beat them, beat THEM and to win that. No matter what, everyone has their own opinion on how things should be done. He was a dick by undermining Vedrana there, but Vedrana is also arrogant. She also automatically thinks her ways are the best, all the time, and she let him know in an insulting and demeaning manner. He deserved a slap on the wrist, sure, but not a kick. Both parties are in the wrong. Both should have found a compromise. Unfortunately, looking out the window, I see no rainbows or ponies or free gold, so I’m forced to assume that it’s the real world, and people are dicks and always, in their view, in the right. (myself included, hence the rant)

But everything can be argued different ways (She’s being true to herself by picking a more appropriate title/She set herself a goal, failed and gave up. Theron was being selfish/Theron had a right to preserve his dignity, etc etc) and that’s part of why this comic is bloody golden, because it’s not all black and white. The fact that we can argue semantics instead of collectively nodding our heads is a tribute to Robin’s skill as a writer.

Jesus Christ, I switched points at least four times throughout this wall of text.

(Also, no groan at “xmurderbanex”? Lotta cringey names on the internet, Daranger sounds more like something the generator spewed out, but if it is “Da Ranger” it’s a little cringey, but not as bad as “Magicka DK DPS” and anything surrounded by “x”s and the like.)

tl;dr: To my knowledge female gamers don’t get shat on any more or less than male gamers, people are always gonna have conflict, Robin is god, there are worse names than Daranger, my train of thought is located at Saint Michel de Maurienne

First of all, I love Arugadh’s comment/avatar combo. Second of all, I love seeing discussions like these. Third of all, I love compliments about me and my work. Thanks for the kind words.

While I’m not going to say how this story will play out (it continues tomorrow, after all) or lay out my intentions behind it (that’s boring) I do feel I should input on “female gamers don’t get shat on any more or less than male gamers.” There’s a reason we’ve had sites like Fat, Ugly, or Slutty or situations like the MagicAmy accusations. Being a woman playing games is a reason all on it’s own for many gamers to shit on someone.

            Just read these. wat
I take that back, I had thought we were, as a society, over the whole gamer girls being sluts thing.
The whole magicamy thing is also stupid. Shame on them, if they did in fact pull that stuff with Prismata. If it is a dude, shame on them for this impressively elaborate web of lies, but Jesus, that pales in comparison to the shame on everyone else for targeting this person, man or woman, over speculation and crackpot theories. And there’s no good reason to even start that sort of investigation and no good reason to condemn them to such a degree over the whole thing.

Ilmate, it’s never been over. It’s not just “gamer girls are sluts”, either. It’s that we’re somehow lesser beings who somehow “owe” it to the guys we play with to be focuses for their ERP and innuendoes and pick-up lines, simply because they’re letting us play with them. And if we refuse…how DARE we.

I’ve known too many Orhans of varying degrees.

It’s an extension of the GIFT. It’s also the result of too many gamer-guys (maybe not the majority, but damn, it feels like that) being socially maladjusted & unused to dealing with live people.

Goofed!? I used to kick people all the time from my groups, usually with the reason of “Piece of Shit” even if it was to just bring ina guild member. I’m also a terrible person so there is that.

I’ve taken to “Crashin’ Thrashin'” for my subtlety rogue, because it’s long been a joke that he isn’t terrifically good at sneaking.

My Combat (or I guess now Outlaw…its killing me not being able to log in for this long) Rogue has gone around as “Shado Master” since late MoP, before that it was usually “the Seeker” or whichever holiday title outside of Love Fool I felt like

I’m rocking the class titles for now, but I’ll probably switch my Shaman back to First Sergeant, since I nabbed it back in Vanilla.
